Exclusive: Nepalese PM praises China-Nepal railway proposals

CGTN’s Dialogue got an exclusive interview with Nepalese Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli during his visit to China.

China and Nepal have signed 14 agreements on issues including infrastructure, railway development, energy, post-disaster reconstruction and human resources.

“Sometimes, if we do something new, some people may ask why that is necessary, what contribution this project can make. But later on, they will know. Sometimes people think the development works are unnecessary. But later on, that creates activation of mind, skills, knowledge, and creates job opportunities from the very beginning and the preliminary survey,” the prime minister said.

Nepal's capital Kathmandu has a population of four to five million people who can be connected to the great market of China by rail.

We have a slogan now, "'Production and productivity, as well as the creation of job opportunities.' Nepal, shall export its items produced to bring the trade into balance. We have to produce, export and consume items ourselves. The railway can be a very fast and cheaper transportation for people and goods."

Prime Minister Oli began a five-day visit to China on Tuesday, June 19. This is Oli's first visit to China since his recent re-election.
